Military Information and the Chancery Clerk's Office
Miss. Code Ann. 35-3-13 - Recordation without cost of honorable discharges and service certificates; recordation without cost of Form DD-214 and Form NGB-22, tasks the Chancery Clerk's office with maintaining copies of military discharge documents known as DD-214 and NGB-22. Recording these documents is free, and free certified copies are provided to the veteran, dependent(s), their next of kin, or authorized representative.
Please note: The Chancery Clerk's office is required to verifiy the identity of the person requesting information. In the event that the veteran is deceased, next-of-kin (the un-remarried widow or widower, son, daughter, father, mother, brother or sister of the deceased veteran) must provide proof of death of the veteran, such as a copy of the death certificate, a letter from the funeral home or a published obituary.
As outlined in the code, the Chancery Clerk's office has created a consent form that allows the veteran to pre-authorize individuals access to the military record. This form immediately below can be completed on the computer and saved/printed.
This service can provide a certified copy of the discharge documents locally at no-cost, and can be a much quicker means of obtaining a lost document.
More veteran information can be found in the blue buttons in the right side menu.
